En la entrada anterior les hablé de cómo transferir rasgos faciales sobre fieltro y para eso usé como ejemplo el centro de una flor. Pues bien, ahora usaré ese mismo diseño para este tutorial y les mostraré cómo hacer una flor en fieltro. Esta flor podrá utilizarse no sólo como adorno para un broche o un llavero, pero también como un ornamento para colgar de la manija de las puertas, de una lámpara, la pared etc. Estoy segura que ustedes encontrarán muchos más usos para esta florecita de los que yo podría imaginar.
Flor en Fieltro.
Materiales:
- Fieltro: en 3 diferentes colores para el centro de la flor, la flor y las hojas
- Aguja e hilo para bordar: en 6 diferentes colores para los ojos, la nariz, la boca, el centro de la flor, los pétalos y las hojas
- Hilo de algodón un poco más grueso (#5 o #8) en café claro o cualquier otro color de su preferencia para hacer los flecos
- Listón para el moño
- Lápiz de grafito y lápices de colores
- Tijeras
- Cinta adhesiva o alfileres
- Pegamento
- Tinta de sellos rosa y brocha o hisopo (también se puede usar rubor cosmético, lápiz o crayón rosado etc)
- Material de relleno de su preferencia
- Extras: listón o cuerda (para la versión de ornamento), argolla y listón (para la
versión de llavero), imperdible o broche metálico (para la
versión de broche).
Instrucciones:
1. Descargar los patrones e imprimirlos. Cortar cada patrón dejando un margen alrededor.
2. Perforar con una aguja los puntos para los rasgos faciales del patrón #1 y también los puntos guía en el centro de los patrones #2 y #3.
3. Fijar los patrones a los diferentes fieltros ya sea con cinta adhesiva o alfileres. Si se usa cinta adhesiva, tenga cuidado de no cubrir los orificios en los patrones.
Patrón #1: marcar los rasgos faciales a través de los orificios con lápices del mismo color que los hilos con que los va a bordar (los ojos en café oscuro o negro, la nariz en color durazno u otro color de su preferencia, la boca en rosa oscuro o rojo).
Patrón #2: puede marcar esta pieza con un lápiz en cualquier color ya que las marcas serán cubiertas y no se verán.
Patrón #3: Marque esta pieza con un lápiz en un tono mas oscuro que el color del fieltro de la pieza.
4. Cortar todas las piezas de fieltro: centro de la flor (1 pieza), flor (2 piezas) y hojas (1 pieza).
5. Bordar los rasgos faciales usando doble hilo en los mismos colores en que se hicieron las marcas. Bordar realizando el punto atrás. Aplicar un poco de color en las mejillas ya sea con tinta de sellos y brocha, rubor cosmético o simplemente con un lápiz o crayón de color rosa.
6. Acomodar las dos flores con los lados del revés juntos. Usar un hilo sencillo en el mismo color de las flores para hacer un círculo de puntos de bastilla por dentro de las marcas de lápiz en el centro de las piezas. Coser enseguida las flores por la orilla con puntos festón o de ojal, empezando aproximadamente como a 1 cm de donde se unen dos pétalos. Cada vez que esté por cerrar un pétalo inserte una pequeña cantidad de relleno evitando dar demasiado volumen.
7. Casi para terminar de cerrar la flor, aproximadamente a 2 cm del punto final, coser un lazo si la flor se hará como llavero o como ornamento.
a)En el caso de un llavero, doblar el listón por la mitad y asegurarlo a la argolla de metal como se muestra en la foto.
Fijar los dos extremos del listón dentro de la flor (entre dos pétalos) con un punto que se retirará más tarde. Continuar cerrando la flor y cuando esté por hacer las últimos puntadas no olvide rellenar el pétalo que está cosiendo.
Cuando termine de cerrar la flor, retire el punto provisional.
b)Para el ornamento, doblar la cuerda o listón por la mitad, fijar sus dos extremos adentro de la flor como se explicó previamente para la versión de llavero.
Casi para terminar de coser el último pétalo, rellene éste, cierre la flor y retire el punto provisional.
8. Poner la cara (centro de la flor) al frente de la flor. Asegúrese de que esté bien centrada guiándose por las marcas de lápiz. Realizar puntos festón alrededor de la cara y cuando esté a 1 o 2 cm del punto final, rellene ligeramente. Termine de cerrar.
9. Flecos: cortar 8 a 10 piezas del hilo de algodón
grueso de aproximadamente 5 cm de largo. Doblar los hilos
por la mitad, presionando el centro con los dedos para que se mantengan
doblados. Aplicar un poco de pegamento en el doblez de los hilos y acomodar cada uno de ellos en forma de abanico sobre la "frente" para simular flecos. Dejar secar. Cuando ya estén los hilos fijos, cortarlos un poco hasta dejarlos al gusto. Como paso opcional, los hilos pueden reforzarse en su sitio con unos cuantos puntos en los dobleces teniendo cuidado de que los nudos de inicio y final queden atrás y por dentro de las marcas de lápiz para que no sean visibles en la pieza terminada.
10. Hacer un moño con el listón y pegarlo sobre la parte superior del fleco. Dejarlo secar. Reforzar el moño con un punto que se anudará en la parte de atrás de la flor por dentro de las marcas de lápiz.
Así es como debe verse la parte de atrás de la flor. Todos los nudos de las costuras que se hicieron al frente de la flor deben de quedar por dentro de las marcas de lápiz en el revés.
11. Hojas: Coser la orilla de las dos hojas con punto festón usando un hilo sencillo del mismo color. Los puntos se harán por el lado opuesto de las marcas de lápiz.
12. Acomodar las hojas en la parte de atrás de la flor, dirigiendo las puntas hacia el lado que guste pero asegúrese que el círculo de la pieza quede bien centrado y cubra todos los nudos y las marcas de lapiz (las marcas de lapiz en las hojas deben verse por el reverso de la flor). Usar un hilo sencillo en el mismo color que las hojas para coser unos puntos de jareta vertical y fijar el círculo a la flor. Siga las marcas de lápiz en la base de las hojas. La aguja pasará unicamente a través de la capa más superficial en la parte trasera de la flor para que los puntos no sean visibles por el frente.
13. Si la flor se va a usar como broche, coser o pegar un imperdible o broche metalico en la parte de atras de la flor. Puede cubrirse parcialmente el broche cosiendo (con puntos de jareta vertical) o pegando un cuadro de fieltro del tamaño adecuado para el broche que se use.

This flower can be made as an embellishment for a brooch, a key-chain, as an ornament etc. I am sure you will find many more uses for it than I could imagine.
Materials:
- Felt in 3 different colors: for the center of the flower, the flower pieces and the leaves
- Needle and embroidery floss in 6 different colors: for the eyes, nose, mouth, the center of the flower, the flower and the leaves
- Pearl cotton thread (#5 or #8) in light brown or any other color of your choice for the bangs
- Ribbon for the bow
- Regular pencil and colored pencils (sharp)
- Scissors
- Tape or pins
- Glue
- Pink ink and paintbrush or cotton swab (you can also use blush, pink pencil, pink crayon, chalk etc)
- Stuffing material of your choice
- Other materials: ribbon or twine (for the ornament version), key-ring and ribbon (for the key-chain version), safety pin or pin-back (for the brooch version).
Instructions:
1. Download and print the patterns. Cut each pattern leaving a margin all around.
2. Use a needle or sewing pin to pierce through the black dots inside the pattern #1, #2 and #3.
3. Pin or tape the patterns to the different felts. Make sure not to cover the holes if the patterns are taped.
Pattern #1: Mark the facial features through the holes in the same colors as you will embroider them (the eyes in dark brown or black, nose in peach or any other color of your choice, mouth in dark pink or red).
Pattern #2: You can use a pencil in any color to mark this piece since the marks will be covered.
Pattern #3: Use a pencil in a darker shade than the felt’s color.
4. Cut the felt pieces: flower center (1), flower (2) and leaves (1).
5. Use a double thread to back stitch the facial features on the flower center piece following the pencil marks. Use threads in the same colors as those of the marks. Apply pink color to the cheeks (either with ink, pink pencil, pink crayon, blush etc).
6. Place the two flower pieces back sides together and with a single thread in matching color make a circle of running stitches just inside the pencil marks. Next, blanket stitch the petals starting at about 1 cm from where two petals join. Every time you are about to close a petal, insert a small amount of filling material to give it a light volume (avoid over-stuffing).
7. Pause stitching when you are about 2 cm from the starting point and attach a loop if the flower is being made as a key-chain or as an ornament.
a) For the key-chain version: use a piece of ribbon twice the length of the loop you want for you key-chain. Fold the ribbon in half and secure it to the key-ring as shown in the picture.
Attach the ribbon’s ends inside the flower between two petals with a securing stitch that will be removed later. Resume blanket stitching the flower and stuff the fifth petal before placing the last stitches.
When you finished closing the flower, remove the securing stitch.
b) For the ornament version you will also attach a loop as I explained for the key-chain version, but in this case you will use a piece of string or ribbon without the ring. Secure the hanging loop inside the flower with a stitch as well.
When you are about to place the last stitches, stuff the fifth petal, finish closing the flower, and remove the securing stitch.
8. Place the embroidered face piece (flower center) in front of the flower. Make sure the face piece is well centered and covers the pencil marks on the flower. With a single thread in matching color blanket stitch around the face. When you are about 1 to 2 cm from the starting point, lightly stuff the face. Finish closing.
9. Bangs: Cut 8 to 10 pieces of the pearl cotton thread, about 5 cm long. Fold the cut thread pieces in half pressing the folding area with your fingers. Apply a little dot of glue on the fold of one thread and attach it to the "forehead" area. You will repeat this step with the remaining thread pieces arranging them in a fan pattern to simulate bangs. Let dry. Trim the bangs here and there to your liking.
As an optional step, reinforce the threads with some simple stitches through the folds. Make sure the starting and ending knots are at the back of the flower and inside the pencil marks so they are not visible on the finished piece.
10. Make a small bow with the ribbon and glue it on top of the bangs. Let it dry. Reinforce the bow with a stitch or two at the center. Tie the thread at the back of the flower inside the pencil marks.
This is what the back of the flower should look like. All the knots should be inside the pencil marks.
11. Leaves: Blanket stitch the edge of both leaves using a single thread in matching color.
12. Place the leaves at the back of the flower with the tips facing to any direction you want. Make sure the circle part of the leaves is well centered and covers all thread knots and flower's pencil marks (the leaves' pencil marks should show at the back of the flower). Use a single thread in matching color to slipstitch the leaves' circle to the flower. Follow the pencil marks at the base of the leaves. The needle will go only through the back layer of the flower so the stitches are not seen at the front.
13. If the flower will be used as a brooch, stitch a safety pin or a pin-back at the back of the flower. You can glue or sew (slip stitches) a square of felt over the center part of the pin-back or safety pin to give a nice finishing touch to the piece.
